ADRENAL GLANDS

Adrenal glands are small endocrine glands located on top of each kidney. They responsibility is to produce variety of hormones. Some of them:

  • adrenaline hormone increases our heart rate and controls blood flow to our muscles and brain, also helping with the conversion of glycogen to glucose in our liver.
  • aldosterone hormones, help keep our blood pressure and blood volume normal by maintaining a proper balance of sodium, potassium and water in our body
  • cortisol our body convert food into energy, normalize blood sugar, respond to stress level and maintain our immune system’s inflammatory response.

As we know, we cannot live without these hormones. Together with others they also responsible for:

  • maintaining pregnancy
  • controlling our fight or flight response * to stress
  • producing sex steroids such as estrogen and testosterone
  • initiating and controlling sexual maturation during childhood and puberty

What are the symptoms of adrenal fatigue / exhaustion and consequences -thyroid issues:

  • thyroid disease ( taking long time medication without any differences in thyroid health issue or problem getting worse )
  • hard time getting out of bed after long hours of sleep– need coffee, tired during the day- another coffee to wake up
  • feeling fatigue around 20-21:00 pm and then feelings of intensified activity
  • problems with falling asleep even if very tired
  • hot flashes at night even when glucose is under control
  • waking up at night without any reason
  • snoring / sleep apnea syndrome / slipping on & off
  • shallow breathing
  • solving problems 24 hr / day , hard to focus, memory loss, brain fog, attention all over the place
  • can’t handle mess and “stupidity”
  • stress or “ hidden” stress
  • low libido, not interested in sex activity
  • less tolerance to everything and helplessness to deal with it; anxiety; panic attacks
  • high or low blood pressure / heart palpitations
  • diabetes
  • asthma allergies / sinus
  • acne / rosacea ( red chicks) / red stretch marks
  • dry skin / dark circles under the eyes
  • hair loss ( sometimes alopecia ) / hair on the face
  • weight problem
  • improper distribution of fat tissue on the neck, torso or stomach area
  • cravings for salt, protein, carbs and fatty food: bread, sweets etc.
  • bloating, heartburns, all different digestive – elimination problems

  • feeling tired after eating
  • fluid retention –often

  • chronic inflammation
  • muscle pain reminiscent of fibromyalgia
  • loss of muscle mass
  • arthritis / painful joints of unknown origin
  • “ pins and needles”- tingling effect on the hands and feet
  • endometriosis
  • PCOS ( Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome )
  • uterine fibroids ( myoma)- could be no symptoms, irregular or very heavy periods
  • breast disease, nodules, cysts
  • miscarriages
  • temperature intolerance, especially the excess heat and Sun
  • premature menopause
  • faster aging of the body, faster greying of hair
  • cancer cells connected to too much estrogen in the body
  • Graves’ Basedow’s disease / Hashimoto disease

*Adrenal glands produce the neurotransmitters – in short – adrenalines. The fight or flight response we all know about.

How does it work and how is connected to tiredness / exhaustion of the adrenal glands.

We all living and functioning predominantly in a “stimulating” world. Our sympathetic nervous system ( part of the autonomic nervous system) is TURN ON. Yes, we stimulate the adrenaline productions all the time, burning our adrenal glands. I see it every day unfortunately: stress; television; driving; games; over indulging energy drinks, coffee, starches and colourings in food, which brings the problem with elimination. All this leads to anxiety, depression and many more chronic health problems.

We must TURN ON our parasympathetic nervous system ( “rest – and- digest” / “ feed –and- breed” system ). This system conserves energy as it slows the heart rate, increases intestinal and gland activity, and relaxes muscles in the gastrointestinal tract.

We must slow down. It’s time to relax.

We have to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system the healthy way, by:

  • listening to a calm relaxing music
  • meditation / yoga therapy
  • proper nutrients ( absorbs mostly in small intestine, into the lymphatic and then the blood)
  • correct supplements ( Vitamin C is one of the most important supplement and it should be taking daily); do check/ test your Vitamin D level ( Vitamin D3 K2 – click here to reed more ), Vitamin B Complex, Magnesium, Omega 3, Curcumin
  • drinking water ( help flash the toxins & filtering the kidneys – stagnant kidneys won’t eliminate waste, adrenals won’t work properly)
  • introduce fermented food in your diet ( like home made – fermented beetroot juice ). My recipe helped many people with heartburn problem.
  • avoid stimulants like coffee and sugar
  • swap your table salt for organic himalayan salt or klodawska salt
  • drink lots of green juices with parsley, celery, coriander, apples, ginger and lemon. Dandelion and parsley are amazing plants for adrenals and other issues, but check dandelion if suits you before you start. You might also feel that your body is craving salt. It is actually sodium not salt & greens and herbs are an abundant source of sodium.
  • other herbs: Siberian Ginseng, Juniper Berry, Rhodiola, Gotu Cola, Ashwagandha, Licorice root
  • eating healthy ( take care of your precious intestine )
  • introduce antioxidants to you life: ginger, turmeric
  • stay away from chewing gums ( chewing gum not only contribute to your abdominal pain, bloating and gastrointestinal issues, damaging your teeth through artificial sweeteners & toxins but may cause mercury to be released from your mercury fillings )
  • therapy / aromatherapy massage ( helps with blockage & elimination of lymphatic waste; if blocked you want be able to absorb the nutrients )
  • use of aromatherapy oils
  • gentle exercise ( swimming, yoga, walking, relaxing cycling etc.) Listen to your body, and if you feel ready gradually improve your exercise regimen. Remember that you are in a phase of recovering, so don’t overdue.
  • think twice before taking antidepressant , read, ask about it, find the alternative ( ideal natural )
  • try “grounding” outside (earthing) by walking bare foot = sea side, garden etc.
